Birds
Karuizawa is well-known as a popular birding spot and is one of the 3 major bird watching sites in Honshu (Karuizawa, Oku-nikko, Mt.Fuji). The variety of habitats here, including firest, grassland and wetlands, makes it a haven for many and resident and migrant species. Throughout the year, it is possible to observe around 130 different kinds of birds, with half of them journeying here from the southern islands in order to raise their offspring. From April to June you can enjoy the best season for bird watching, as the numbers of species increases and with less foliage on the trees they are easier to spot!
