Mountains
Karuizawa is a town surrounded by mountains. The biggest name is Mt.Asama, one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. It rises above Karuizawa at a height of 1251m (elev. 2568m) and is listed on the “One Hundred Mountains of Japan” list. From May to September, the slopes of Asama bloom with various wild flowers and berries making it an important feeding spot for many wild animals including the Asiatic black bear.
