Waterfalls

Karuizawa’s alternating terrain creates many waterfalls, big and small. One of the most famous waterfalls is “Shiraito no taki” which means waterfall of white thread, as it does indeed appear as if thousands of pale strings are pouring over the rock face creating quite a splendid site. Another waterfall along the same route named “Ryu ga ishi”, received its name after a large serpent was apparently seen crossing there over 100 years ago. Closer to the Picchio Visitor Centre and the National Wild Bird Sanctuary Forest is “Sengataki”, a taller waterfall that freezes beautifully in winter and plays host to one of our winter nature tours.
