Birds
In terms of birdlife over 190 species have been recorded on and around the island including both resident species and migrants. The island provides various types of habitat from shoreline to mountain and can support a variety of species. One of the most spectacular sights is the endangered crested serpent eagles showing off their beautifully patterned wings as they soar overhead. You can enjoy the birds at night time too, listening to the duets of various owl species including the Ryukyu scops owl.
