Thanks to the tropical climate, diverse insects can be seen all year round in Iriomote and around 50 species of butterflies have been recorded. The variety of colouration is either for the purpose of mate attraction or as the result of a predator avoidance strategy. Looking more closely at an animal so small as an insect will show you just how amazing evolutionary history and survival strategies can be.
