Iriomote island’s attractions are not only limited to it’s magnificent coastline and low-lying areas but continue up into the hilly terrain of Mt. Komi (elev. 496.5m). Wind blowing across these mountainous areas creates clouds, contributing to the island’s annual rainfall of 2,300mm. As a result of this rainfall, paired with a complex terrain, a number of rivers run through the forest and out into the sea. In the middle to upper reaches there are over 1000 waterfalls accompanying these rivers.
